The health education program at Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC) is nationally known for its Ph.D. program. In the past five years, doctoral students have received national recognition, such as the American School Health Association’s Delbert Oberteuffer Award, the Eta Sigma Gamma National Gamman of the Year Award, and the Social Science Research Council Dissertation Fellowship. Graduates of the program serve in leadership positions in health education and as university faculty members across the country. Faculty members are national leaders in health education and authors of numerous professional articles and books. The department serves as the home of The Health Educator and the HEDIR. Through the student-centered commitment of faculty members, Ph.D. graduates gain a high level of skill in both teaching and research.
