Organizational Structure

Commitees and Task Forces

Board of Directors

The Board of Directors is made up of key influencers in health and education policy and leadership and funding.   Additionally, the Chair and Vice-Chair of the Members Council sit on the Board.   The Board meets regularly with fiduciary responsibility and legal authority to oversee and monitor the operations and programs of the organization.  Click here for the Board of Directors index and bios,  Meeting Minutes or upcoming meeting information.

Executive, Finance, Governance and  Membership Committees and  Advocacy, Communications, Fund Development, and Strategic Planning Task Forces report to the Board of Directors. 

Members Council

The Members Council meets regularly to consider and evaluate issues and trends of the field with analysis and evaluation; develops appropriate proposals and programs for advancing the field; promotes collaboration among members; provides analysis and recommendations to the Board of Directors to inform and support the field.  The Members Council is made up of the Executive Directors, or other key leader, from each member organization.  Click here for  Meeting Minutes or upcoming meeting information.

Conference Advisory, Research & Evaluation Committees and  Awards and Collaborative Programs Task Forces report to the Members Council. 

Advocacy Task Force

Part of our collective mission as for those who provide health education programs is to ensure our legislators are aware of what we do and how health education can take on a vital role in health prevention. Similarly, it is important for members to be aware of legislation that impacts them.  The role of the Advocacy Committee is to track and communicate issues and legislation of importance to the field. This task force reports to the Board of Directors.

Awards Task Force

The Awards Task Force oversees all organization recognition and awards programs.  The committee drafts criteria, eligibility, and goals,  establishes nomination procedures and deadlines.  This task force reports to the Members Council.

Collaborative Programs Task Force

This task force monitors health education curricula in use by NAHEC members; develops new curricula, and shares curricula available through NAHEC partnerships; enhancements; works with the Research & Evaluation Committee on organization projects and reports to the Members Council.

Communications Task Force

With a geographically disperse member base, it is crucial to have clear, easy and, when relevant, actionable communications tactics and an overall strategy for communications.   This task force, which reports to the Board of Directors, develops programs and activities to increase public and media awareness of this organizations, its members and programs. 

Conference Advisory Committee

The Annual Conference is a key opportunity for networking, opportunities for continuing education, learning about current market trends and sharing best practices. Additionally, the conference is a key fund-raising opportunity to sustain administrative costs of NAHEC.  Role of committee volunteers is to meet these goals. This committee reports to the Members Council.

Executive Committee

Standing committee of the Board of Directors composed of NAHEC officers; makes decisions and meets in months when the Board of Directors does not meet; oversees and monitors NAHEC business and operations, subject to the authority of the Board of Directors.

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee, a standing committee of the Board of Directors, oversees and monitors the financial affairs of NAHEC; develops new budgets to present for Board consideration; works with the accounting professionals in preparing the annual audits.

Fund Development Task Force

Fund Development Task Force, which reports to the Board of Directors, develops plans and strategies for all fund raising efforts; assists staff in evaluating funding prospects, and when possible, in soliciting funds.

Governance Committee

Prepares a proposed slate of candidates to serve as officers and directors for NAHEC in the coming year for consideration and vote by the members at the annual membership meeting of the members; reviews Board governance procedures and recommends “best practices” for Board.  This committee is a standing committee of the Board of Directors.

Membership Committee

Membership, a standing committee of the Board of Directors, is focused on developing a strategy for growing the depth and breadth of membership and in the eventual implementation of a membership campaign.

Research & Evaluation Committee

This committee monitors and facilitates research and evaluation efforts of health education curricula and programs; works in conjunction with academic and research partners. Committee makes reports to the Members Council.

Strategic Planning Task Force

This task force of the Board of Directors oversees NAHEC strategic planning; monitors progress; engages the entire Board in strategic plan development.
