It's Time!  Addressing Youth Mental Health

 

This acclaimed series of programs is designed to reduce the stigma of mental health problems and increase skills for identification, support and referral by teen peers, teachers and staff in youth organizations, and families.

Program Content

  • Experience of depression in general and in the school setting
  • Depression and brain chemistry
  • Strategies youth use to manage and heal
  • Skills for positive impact on a teen’s experience of depression and connecting with parents
  • Hope and lessons learned from the journey

 

Expected Outcomes

Staff participants in the in-service will acquire/demonstrate:

  • Increased awareness and understanding of youth depression & the important role of adults
  • Ability to identify and refer youth who are dealing with mental health concerns,
  • Ability to effectively connect with and support troubled youth,
  • Ability to engage depressed youth in learning and other positive behaviors, and
  • Ability to involve parents as partners

Findings from 3-month follow-up Surveys

  • 82% of the in-service participants (primarily teachers) increased their curiosity about students’ attitudes, behaviors and academic problems
  • 82% increased their use of strategies to create positive connections with students who seemed to be struggling with emotional/mental health problems
  • 66% increased their conversations with other school staff about how to better understand student behavior and connect with students
  • 42% increased their contacts with parents about how to best understand and connect with their child, and parents.

Program includes six (6) hours of training, program license, ongoing support throughout the use of the program, 5 program sets including scripts, DVDs, marketing and a Funding Template.

Continuing Education Credits

CHES credits available: Six (6). Participants must register for CHES to receive credits.
